Atomik: the radioactive Vodka from Chernobyl

HBO's Chernobyl series brought back one of the biggest tragedies of the 20th century, the explosion of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in 1986. With absolute success, the number of tourists in the Ukrainian city of Pripyat has grown, making room for new business.
Thus arises Atomik, the Vodka produced with grains harvested in the exclusion zone of the atomic reactor. It was presented by British and Ukrainian scientists - they ensure the drink is free of radioactivity.
The only bottle of Chernobyl vodka produced so far is the result of a three-year research into the transfer of radioactivity to cropped and harvested agricultural products within the area of greatest radioactive contamination around the former plant.

The distillation process reduced the grain impurities, at the end of the process the drink was of the same quality as any other vodka. Alcohol was produced by fermenting the grains with water from a well near the reactor (this water has sources similar to the Champagne source in France).
"It is the most important bottle of alcohol in the world as it will help the progress of communities living in and around the rugged area," said scientist Jim Smith. Marketing will be small-scale and three-quarters of its profits to the local community.
A cocktail bar in central London with only one bottle available described its qualities: "It's more a distilled cereal drink than a vodka, so it has a lot more fruity notes - you can taste the rye," says Sam Armeye. , from the Swift bar. The value of the drink has not yet been disclosed.
