Kalsarikännit: The Art of Nude Drinking
Finns have an unusual habit: the art of staying home at night drinking naked. That's right! It may not be customary in other countries, but in Finland it is celebrated as a source of pride and celebration. For them, this practice is a solitary relaxation and self-empowerment technique that helps them meet challenges.
If you feel guilty about staying at home on the weekend, know that everything is fine. The kalsarikännit philosophy (pronounced "calçaricãnít") is there to help you stay calm, healthy and less stressed.
The habit would have emerged as a way of coping with the long dark Finnish winter (six months). In a few weeks, the country has only six hours of light and temperatures of minus 20ºC. Instead of going out to meet friends, many people would rather stay at home (the nude part we don't know very well).
But after all, is there anything better than drinking your favorite drink, watching a movie, eating tasty snacks after a long day at work? Even more so if naked!
Want to be part of this philosophy? Are there any rules that should be followed?
- Kalsarikännit implies loneliness, that is: be alone!
- Take a relaxing shower and get totally naked…
- Prepare your favorite drink (it needs to be alcoholic, this rule is essential)
- Choose what you like to do the most (movies, snacks, books)
This new trend may be a great excuse to decline that unwanted invitation ...
