Meet Vodka Made From Nothing

Built on CO2, water and solar energy, technology company Lifestyle Air Co has developed sustainable vodka.
Originally from Eastern Europe, vodka is one of the most popular drinks in the world. The distillate is obtained from corn, rice, barley, wheat, rye herbs or even potatoes (such as Russian ones). Now researchers at New York-based technology firm Lifestyle Air Co have been able to develop a vodka from air.

Using a solar-powered machine, it extracts CO2 so that the gas can be split into oxygen and carbon. The molecules are separated and mixed with water over a metal-based catalyst, generating pure ethanol.

“The process uses the same principles as photosynthesis in plants, but more efficiently,” explains Stafford Sheehan, the company's co-founder. Once created, it was distilled to 40% alcohol volume like any other vodka - it contains no impurities, sugars, gluten or hydrocarbons.

The news is already on sale in some New York restaurants and bars. The value of the bottle is 65 dollars. Now it remains to know how it tastes!
