May: International Masturbation Month

In May we celebrate Mother's Day and it is also well known for being the month of brides…
But in addition to these famous dates, International Masturbation Month is also celebrated. And nothing better than celebrating with our Bellas in style! Before having some hands-on experience, know how it all started..
In 1994, pediatrician Joycelyn Elders, U.S. Surgeon General, was questioned at a UN event about the role of masturbation in preventing risky sexual behavior. She stated that "it is part of human sexuality, and should be taught in schools". Soon after that statement, the doctor was dismissed.
With the great repercussion, an important discussion on the subject began. Vibrator brand Good Vibrations has started a campaign to publicize the benefits of masturbation as something healthy and safe (check out our Blog post on the benefits of Masturbation).
So, due to the events, the celebration was created in San Francisco and is still celebrated today! Studies show that about 7 in 10 adult men masturbate more than once a day.
The practice still involves several taboos and myths, considering it "dirty" or leaves it bruised, gives you hairy hands, causes hair loss and even blindness ... But, as everyone already knows, all this was long ago unmasked by science - and masturbation only has health benefits!
