Mercedes-Benz is inspired by Avatar
Inspired by the movie Avatar, the new Mercedes-Benz has no steering wheel and is able to recognize the driver by heartbeat and breathing.
Created in partnership with the Avatar franchise, the new Mercedes-Benz VISION AVTR was presented during the CES event in Las Vegas. Six months later, the electric vehicle appears to be driven in a video introducing the brand. With the promise of connecting “man, machine and nature”, the novelty boasts technologies of the future.
The vehicle is controlled via a sensor on the center console: "Unlike a conventional steering wheel, the multifunctional control element on the center console allows the man and the machine to merge. By placing your hand on the unit, the interior comes alive and the vehicle recognizes the driver by his heartbeat and breathing, "said Mercedes.

According to Jon Landau, producer of the movie Avatar: “In addition to having a beautiful design, it [the car] will create a closer connection with the driver and the environment around him. We hope it will result in a better understanding of our responsibility to the world in which we live”.

Although the prototype has all the features, commercialization is not yet in Mercedes' plans. The creation is believed to be to demonstrate the elements that can be used in future projects.
