Drive & Listen: travel without leaving

Developed by Erkam Şeker, a Turkish student who lives in Munich, the Drive & Listen platform offers tours through 53 cities, which can be chosen by the “driver”. Among the main destinations are: New York, Paris, Rio de Janeiro, Curitiba, Yekaterinburg, Russia, Thessalonica, Greece and Izmir, Turkey.

“I was longing to drive around my city, and even the traffic and the mess of everyday life, and I found myself watching Istanbul videos on Youtube," commented Erkam. “It was so fun to see my city, and I thought I would also like to listen to the radio in the background, during the tour”. 

The experience offers several radio options in each city, ideal for the background trail. To make the experience even more real, you can turn the sound of the street on or off, increase or decrease the speed of the car (always respecting the headlights and traffic lights) and observe all the daily excitement.

The site uses HD videos recorded in first person, with footage from cameras attached to vehicles. In an interview for the Lonely Planet website, Şeker said he included new cities almost every day: "People from all over the world write to me asking how they can contribute". We know that real travel, in the flesh, on the concrete streets of a city is an unbeatable experience, but while that is not possible, traveling virtually through Drive & Listen is the perfect route.
