Flying motorcycle can reach up to 400 km
The Jetpack Aviation has just announced that the world's first flying motorcycle is about to become a reality.
The Jetpack Aviation brand already makes “backpack” propellers for people to fly and has now announced that it is working on the first flying jet motorcycle. Scheduled for launch in 2023, the initial flight of its prototype has already been completed and approved by the designers. The company completed five months of testing achieving several benchmarks such as the ability to hover, climb, yaw and perform slow forward transitions.
Check out the video below featuring the flying jet motorcycle, dubbed the Speeder:
In the images released, the motorcycles have four turbines, but in the final version there will be eight, doubling one in each corner. The novelty is set to be available in a recreational and military model, with vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) to be transported in a trailer or car.“We could have an ultra-light version [which doesn't require a pilot's license] ready in two years and a category trial version in six months after that,” Jetpack Aviation CEO David Mayman told the Robb Report. “The ultralight version would be limited to 60 mph (FAA rules) and a 15-minute flight time. The trial version would require a basic pilot's license to fly. The speed of this version would be approximately 250 mph with a flight time of around 35 minutes.”
Capable of reaching a top speed of 400 km/h and carrying a load of 270 kg, the Speeder has around 136 kg and will have manual controls, an on-board radio system and a 12-inch navigation screen. The California company says it is committed to prioritizing liquid zero carbon fuel, although the engines can run on kerosene or diesel.
The starting price for the consumer versions will cost approximately $381,000, but this price is very likely to increase when it becomes available for production.
