New Embraer aircraft

Aiming to be faster than the ATR, the new Embraer aircraft surprises with its bold design.
The Brazilian manufacturer is prepared to show its differentials and compete with two renowned turboprops. Still without an official name, the new Embraer aircraft was nicknamed TPNG (New Generation Turbo). With a surprising design, the novelty features engines in the rear that pull as well as turboprops with propulsion in the wings.
The plans are for at least two models with 70 and 90 seats, to cover the Canadian DHC-8-400 (formerly Bombardier Q400) and the French ATR72 on the market. In an interview with Jon Ostrower, from the website ‘The Air Current’, Rodrigo Souza e Silva, Vice President of Marketing at Embraer, gave more details on how the plan to bring larger turboprops was accepted in the market.
“After the worst period of the Covid crisis, when no one wanted to see us, the US market was the first to show signs of recovery, so we had the opportunity to talk to the airlines again. And with that we had a change in the acceptance of the turboprop, proving to be something viable in the American market”, said the executive. “In any case, this will be a challenge for Embraer, which could gain space if it presents an aircraft that helps companies (and passengers) to reduce costs,” said Carlos Martins, airline pilot and editor-in-chief of Aeroin.

“The plane will have a little more than 800 nm (1,841 km) in range, but it will be optimized for flights between 250 nm and 300 nm (500 km range), faster than an ATR, but not as fast as a Q400.” said the Vice President of Marketing at Embraer.
When it comes to speed, an Embraer aircraft would be 300 to 600 knots compared to a cruise, offering an additional 15% to 20% savings compared to the ATR. Its delivery is scheduled for 2027 and 2028, Embraer seems to be betting on the Azul model, with a mix of ATRs and larger E195-E1/E2 jets for regional flights.
