Lightyear new solar car
Available in Europe later this year, Lightyear Zero launches the first solar-powered electric car that can travel up to 110 km/h without recharging.
After six years of development, the first solar-powered car promises to revolutionize the market. With solar panels on the roof, the four-door coupe from Dutch startup Lightyear can travel up to 30 km a day and recharge for seven months.
During an online event, the production model was presented and renamed from “One” to “0”. The Lightyear 0 will be launched at a cost of US$263,000, equivalent to a direct conversion price of R$1.3 million (same price as the electric Porsche Taycan).
According to the European WLP test, the Lightyear 0 exceeded the range of the Tesla Model 3. It managed to achieve 625 km of range, even with a 60 kWh battery, which is smaller than the Tesla's, which has 82 kWh of capacity.
This greater range is due to its 5 square meters of solar panels that deliver an extra 70 km on sunny days. According to the startup, even with an average speed of 110 km/h, the coupe can travel 560 km without recharging.
There are four electric motors, one on each wheel, 174 hp of total power and 175.4 kgfm of maximum torque, but its performance is limited and unimpressive, taking 10 seconds to go from zero to 100 km/h.
Featuring a light and resistant body, the Lightyear 0 has parts made of ecological materials and carbon fiber. Inside, almost all surfaces are made with vegan or natural materials. In its cabin, synthetic leather, microfiber and recycled bottles were used on the dashboard, steering wheel and seats.
Its production will take place later this year and will be limited to only 946 units. To guarantee, just access the company's website and configure the copy. Will it be successful?
