What is Blue November?
Blue November is a movement that emerged in Australia in 2003 and spread around the world to raise awareness among men about the importance of taking care of their health and preventing prostate cancer. The color blue was chosen to represent the campaign, symbolizing masculinity.
Why is prostate cancer a problem?
Second only to skin cancer, prostate cancer is the most common cancer among men worldwide. When diagnosed early, the chances of a cure are much greater. However, many men still resist taking preventive exams, such as digital rectal examination and PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen), due to fear and mainly prejudice.Symptoms and risk factors
Symptoms of prostate cancer may include difficulty urinating, pain or burning when urinating, bone pain, among others. Additionally, some risk factors, such as advanced age and family history, can increase the likelihood of developing the disease. Therefore, it is essential that men are aware of the symptoms and risk factors, seeking medical help if necessary.Prevention and early diagnosis
Preventing prostate cancer begins with adopting a healthy lifestyle, which includes a balanced diet and physical exercise. Furthermore, carrying out preventive exams is crucial. Digital rectal examination and PSA are the main methods of early diagnosis, and should be carried out regularly, especially from the age of 50, or earlier, in cases of risk factors.
Share this information and encourage your friends to take the exam. Help contribute to the reduction of prostate cancer and reduce the death rate from the disease. Don't let fear or prejudice stop you from taking care of your health.
