Nocturnal emission is normal?
Nocturnal emission, also known as "wet dreams", is a phenomenon that can occur in both men and women, regardless of age.

Did you have a bad night of sleep, full of dreams and wake up wet? If you think that nocturnal emission only occurs when we are teenagers, you are wrong - both men and women in any age group can orgasm during sleep. Find out a little more about the subject, find out how this happens and when nocturnal emission becomes a cause for concern.
What is nocturnal emission?
Nocturnal emission or nocturnal emission is the involuntary release of sperm during sleep. In men it is more visible due to excitement and the presence of semen when waking up, in women it also occurs but with excess lubrication and release of vaginal secretion.
Why do we ejaculate while sleeping?
Contrary to what we think, erotic dreams are not the only cause of this phenomenon. According to the Brazilian Center for Urology, nocturnal emission can occur during the REM phase of sleep, which is the deepest. During this phase, the body may react to involuntary stimuli, such as muscle contractions, rapid eye movements, intense brain activity, and rapid heartbeats.
This phase, which lasts approximately 20 minutes, may include erection and ejaculation. This is more common in young people during puberty, due to high testosterone levels which increase libido. While in women, nocturnal emission may or may not be accompanied by orgasms, manifesting itself mainly through excessive lubrication.
Other causes are also highlighted by experts regarding the causes of nocturnal orgasm, which deserve special attention:
- Prolonged sexual abstinence
- Excessive tiredness
- Lack of activities
- Hormonal disorders
- Tightening of the foreskin during sleep
How to treat nocturnal emission?
There is no need for treatment, as the reasons that cause nocturnal emission are natural to our body and do not indicate sexual dysfunction. It is a common and involuntary situation where masturbation can often help release accumulated sexual tension (here we talk about all the benefits of masturbation). This will not affect your experience of pleasure in any way.
But stay tuned! If the release of sperm during sleep is recurrent and is affecting your quality of life, we recommend that you see a urologist to receive the necessary guidance.
