R17: new version with electric motor
The iconic Renault 17, which won hearts in the 1970s, is back with a new identity: the electric version R17.

The original Renault 17 was a fusion between a coupe and a station wagon, famous for its striking design. Now, Renault presents the R17 Electromod, equipped with a powerful 272 hp (200 kW) electric motor on the rear axle, replacing the old 1.6-liter gasoline engine. This transformation not only increases power, but also promises much faster acceleration, surpassing the 10 seconds of the combustion model.
The electric motor was developed in partnership with Valeo and uses innovative technology, designed to operate at 800 volts, without permanent magnets, which makes it more sustainable and efficient. This approach reflects Renault’s vision for the future of electric vehicles, with plans to incorporate this technology into its models from 2027.

The design of the R17 was developed in collaboration with renowned French designer Ora Ito. While maintaining the original model’s angular lines, the car features modern details such as rectangular headlights, while preserving its nostalgic essence. The dimensions have also been adjusted: the new model is 17 cm wider, offering an even more impressive presence on the road.

The interior of the R17 combines 1970s charm with modern functionality. Design elements such as the extravagant steering wheel and the brown and beige color palette are reminiscent of the era. This fusion of past and future promises to deliver a unique driving experience.

While the Renault 17 electric is an exciting project, the brand has no plans to launch a production version. The model will be a highlight at the Paris Motor Show, alongside the R4 electric, which is part of Renault’s retro range. This line has already started with the successful electric R5, showing that the brand is willing to revive classics in an innovative way.
