The Importance of Breakfast
Have you ever heard the saying: “a king’s breakfast, a prince’s lunch and a peasant’s dinner to stay healthy”? It’s common to speak of the importance of breakfast for your health and how a healthy diet at this meal will alter your disposition, change your body and bring countless benefits to your health.
It’s not important what your goal is at the gym (big muscles, definition, weight loss, general physical condition etc), results will only appear if you begin the day with a good breakfast. We are not saying it has to be a dream breakfast, relaxed with no rush - of course if you can great! But you must start the day with food that will provide energy in a fast and practical manner. This is because this energy (glucose) is used up during the night, and your organism uses the glycogen stored in other parts of the body, such as the muscles.
Even during sleep, the organism continues to work, at a slower pace, but it maintains the basic functions such as breathing, heartbeat, circulation and others. All of these functions need energy. For this reason, upon waking up, it is necessary to restore the energy to complete the day’s tasks. This means that breakfast must provide, among other nutrients, the carbohydrates needed to do the day’s work, directly influencing your productivity.
Speaking simply: the longer you spend without eating, the longer the muscles are being depleted and your body becomes weak. Thus, you should replace your stocks to guarantee the energy needed to practice sports later on.
People should have a habit of having breakfast. If you don’t eat anything, you will overeat at lunch, exaggerating in fats and fried food and will wind up with that sensation of being “stuffed,” leaving you lethargic. The longer you go without eating, the less selective you’ll be, that is, when you are very hungry, you open the refrigerator and take anything. But if you are well fed, you stop, think and choose something healthy. Haven’t you ever arrived home and eaten something you don’t like just to fill up?
So, here are the final tips:
• Have a fast and practical meal, with whole grain breads, fruits, yogurts, cereals, etc. That is, look for foods that will keep you going in the first part of the day, so that you feel energetic and healthy;
• Try to eat at least six times a day. Eating less and more frequently is the best hint for healthy eating;
• With more disposition, you will be able to train better, your performance will increase, and you will have better results;
• Remember that what you eat during the day has less chance of being stored, because your body uses energy to keep you alive. While at night the opposite is true...You eat what you didn’t during the day, you lie down and store everything, because you won’t burn so many calories while you are sleeping;
• Before working out, have a light snack, don’t eat too much, you will get an upset stomach and won’t feel good, and isn’t this what we want?
• Try to avoid fatty and fried foods and maintain a balanced diet. Don’t forget: the result of your physical training depends 65% on what you eat;
• A friend of mine always says ”At 18 you have the body that nature gave you...at 40 you have the body that you deserve.” So treat yourself well and keep your body healthy.
