Friends with benefits
Would this be one of the most polemic subjects when we think about friendship between a man and a woman? Is there any chance of becoming friends to someone the opposite sex? You are now probably remembering some chick who started as a colleague of yours, then accepted your first date invitation and started kissing you more often than talking to you and after it was over, there was nothing less but some awkwardness between you two.
Everyone has a story to tell about something more than friendship. This relationship may start in the classroom, the office or anywhere which offers you a chance of long talks and confidences exchange. And I gotta say I believe many guys become friends to women just so they can slowly reach the goal of taking them to bed. Some eventually get what they are after, whereas some will just need to start all over again with a different victim.
The advantage of having a male friend for us ladies is to keep away from competition. A male friend is not after our boyfriend nor our shoes. What they want is talk, know about what is new, help us somehow and honestly I don`t think they are into gossiping – although we are well aware that most men enjoy a little gossip once in a while, some even more than women.
When you want, you know exactly how to listen to us and give us a bit of attention. In the meantime it is the boyfriend who usually avoids deep talks, is always after sex and refuses any romantic comedies that may appear. So, friends, you are heroes!
What may happen sometimes is the fact that we have besides us the right guy to share secrets and anxieties with, but who will also be trying to score and stare into our breasts whenever possible – unless in the case of gay friends. So we tell them everything, we let our male friends know how we feel about a bunch of things and we believe we have the best friends in the world. Do women actually believe this is possible? Friends without benefits?
I, for once, have many friends who have been with me for a long time. I know I can trust them, they are all lovely with my family and even come to visit more often now that I have a baby at home. Do you think I see them as possible night-outs? Well, I don`t. And I guess this opinion most of people have with regards to the impossibility of real friendship between men and women is total b*llsh*t!
A few years ago, while speaking to a specialist on the subject, I heard the following sentence: `pretty women have male friends for as long as they like. Men rarely deny a friendship with a hot chick.`
Does this mean it depends on us? Are we going to be able to nuture a real friendship with a guy only if we are pretty? I believe many women ignore their male friends` flaws in the name of their friendship. I am sure many pretend they do not notice when their friends are caught staring, for example.
Anyway, what I would like to say here is that the possibility of a friendship without benefits do exist. It may not last for long – after all, we keep being friends up until one of us tries something more daring. But it may never end – when we notice you feel bad for the end of your marriage and start hating your ex because we love you so much.
There are two different paths when it comes to that: the real friend, who wishes to see you happy with a nice woman; or the one who starts as a friend and ends up with being your official chick. Which one is it going to be?
