Making it better
With the end of every year comes the feeling of wanting to put it all on a scale and measuring what could have been different. For many of us, this means a little nostalgia mixed with euphoria, and sometimes a bit of sadness. Normal, right? After all, that is when we are spending more time with our families, we buy gifts for those we love, we end up judging the things we did wrong and all that.
It is a little cliché, but if we think that no diet whatsoever starts on Mondays, we are also never going to change because a new year has arrived. What we can do, though, is believe there are things we can do differently than before, we can act better, no matter if these things are big or small. It might be a good idea to think about it. It is January still, and there is plenty of time for you to leave some bad habits behind and say hello to a promising future.
As it has been almost a month since New Year, it is about time you left the past behind and started working on what is to come. But, hold it still - only promise what you can do. Of course there is no obligation of change in case you are happy with things the way they are. Maybe you have been a good guy lately, and you have dealt with the situations maturely, and now you can hold your head up high and scream it to the world: I feel blessed! In these cases, why insist on changing? Better is not to touch what has been working well.
Oh, watch out when you go out there distributing advices to all of your friends, thinking you are right and people have to change. Insisting someone changes just because we believe it´s best or just because they don´t act like we would, is tiring and unnecessary. Instead of helping people out, we make the situation worse. Give advice, of course. But do not insist. And please bear in mind that people are different. You shouldn´t think everyone if obliged to behave the same way you do.
I believe most people think about these stuff this time of the year, and there is nothing wrong about it. It can be quite a good thing to do, really, especially when we gotta get better in some aspects of our lives.
Working on a list of goals for the year - goals that can actually be achieved - is great. It helps measuring the positive stuff you have done in the past, and change the negative ones. Making it differently is avoiding the same mistakes and embracing the changes of getting it right the next time. So no matter what your goals are for the year, I hope you are willing to make it better!
