The year has finally started!

Okay, it’s March and some of us are thinking about tour next holidays already. As usual, the year’s flying by. But (there’s always a but!) remember your New Year’s resolutions? Well, I’m here to remind you the list you made is still there, and that there are some things you should do in order to reach your goals in 2016. It’s about time you started organizing your love life, following that diet to lose some pounds, and dedicating more time and effort to work and/or leisure.

When I’m willing to cross an objective off my list, I’m the kind of person who needs to organize things and ideas. I’m a big fan of lists, and I love writing down my goals – even the smallest ones. Lists are great for keeping track of things, from the supermarket to your life wishes. Well, you seen where I’m going there... if you’re willing to make your year worthwhile, I would suggest you put all your ideas, goals, aims, objectives and tasks into paper – or apps – whichever suits you best.

Some mobile apps have shopping lists, for example, which include product brands and prices, allowing you to calculate what you’ll be spending before you actually reach the shelves. Cellphones are awesome, too, for they have agendas with calendars split by daily hours, with alarms and reminders for tasks and compromises. In other words, there are no excuses!

So, one of the things in my personal list this year is lose a few pounds. I believe this goal is the same to some of you. With the help of my brother I realized that, for some things, talking to a pro may be one of the best ways to reach a goal.

My brother has been seeing a nutritionist on a monthly basis. She reorganized his eating habits by adapting his menu based on things he likes to eat, taking everything into consideration – from his working hours to how much he’s willing to spend on meals – to help him change his eating habits. In a month he lost the weight he was willing to eliminate, yay for him. I had an appointment with this doctor last November, but after a near two-month-wait I had an emergency with my daughter and had to cancel it. I’ve now been waiting for my next appointment... Ces’t la vie!

Another common thought that arise during this time of the year is related to people’s professional routines. I know, I know... you’re doing well where you are. But why stop? How about a PhD? Or maybe going to an international congress, or taking a short course that would help you with some of the tasks? Analyzing the Market in which you are inserted is good for improving your professional performance, and may be the secret to solve a few issues you might be going through before you act on a whim and then realizes you didn’t want to quit after all...

You’re right, maybe I’m talking too much. Maybe you know all that already, or maybe you have organized already. Maybe you’re not even worried about the year and your tasks. Or maybe you’re wondering how silly it is to use an app to organize your daily routine. It’s fine, I won’t take it personally, I promise! All I’m saying is that I believe it’s important for us to have goals, and to organize them in order to actually reach them sometime in the future. Just so you can keep track of thing, you know?!
