Minimalist style: does it actually work?

There is a strong minimalist wave going on worldwide. But not all people surf the same wave at the same time, and maybe some of you don’t quite know what is it about minimalism and its essence.
What I can tell you is that the clean style came along with the Bauhaus School of design, which remained open from 1919 to 1933, and had as motto “form comes after function”, becoming the pioneer when it comes to ‘less is more’.
And, since fashion and design tend to walk hand in hand, it is obvious why minimalism has won the spotlight. Not only in relation to design, but especially for its function - the style’s greatest rompant. When we realize, we’re slowly trying to decrease excesses, keeping in the closet only the pieces we actually wear, improving our time management, and living with less and less.
We have talked about the capsule wardrobe some time ago, an avant-garde concept that many people have been taking seriously, and defends that we should only own our best, functional, democratic pieces of clothing. After the careful selection, you combined them among themselves, acquiring new items only when really necessary. The concept also says that when a new item comes in, an old one must come out. There are several documentaries on the subject, just in case you’re curious to know more.
Anyway, adopting a minimalist lifestyle isn’t only about the way you dress or the clothing you have. You actually need to leave aside several excessive behaviors, you got to abandon exaggeration.
If you think about it, how much of your wardrobe do you actually wear? The pieces that occupy the easiest spots, the ones you have as favorites… Do you organize your looks calmly and are aware of what you have available?
By answering questions like these (and others), you can have an overview of your own personal style, and maybe give it a try on being minimal when it comes to the way you choose to dress. You can wear colors and still be a minimalist. You can have style and still be minimalist. All you need to do is choose wisely.
