Did the mask become a fashion item?

In times of pandemic, how do you face the face protection mask? The one usually made of fabric and used to cover the nose and mouth, which overnight became a mandatory item for the circulation of people everywhere. It seems like a simple description, but the truth is that the mask became much more than a protective device, the mask gained status as a fashion item.
Even though some people see the mask as just a protective item, the vast majority of people have bet on the masks with some difference, even if it is aesthetic! Special materials, prints ranging from the most basic to the most fun, unusual shapes and even masks with jewelry prices!
Initially the focus was on masks with double and triple layers, made of cotton and with elastics beyond simple. After a few months, the design of the masks evolved to the point of becoming an accessory, being able to match with clothing and gaining compliments, such as fixing buttons and extenders to relieve the continuous use of the elastic.
Some professions, mainly health, such as nurses, medical surgeons and dentists, have always had the mask as a working partner. But the mask became a reality for all professions, so materials and formats gained attention for better performance. For the practice of sport, textile technology came into action, and smarter fabrics gained value. Seamless neoprene, lycra and polyamide masks appeared, promising comfort and breathability.
The sports brands launched different versions, with anatomical cuts and the promise of protection and performance. Luxury brands also brought to the market leather versions, with monograms and imposing boxes, to live up to their product mix. The differential factor went into the designers' research, versions made in 3D printers have been a success, where the masks are made in flat models, like a paper, and then molded in the shape of the face. The advantage beyond incredible colors and futuristic aesthetics? They do not need washing, just cleaning with alcohol every two hours, being able to use the same mask throughout the day!
Patterns and colors are the parameters most involved in choosing masks. Camouflaged, neon colors, with face prints, neutral and skin color. While some love to wear a fashion accessory, others seek discretion. Also noteworthy are materials such as knitting, sequins, bioplastics and other versions made from reusing clothes, such as jeans.
The shapes of the masks are highlighted as well. In addition to the traditional square model, more anatomical and comfortable masks stood out. Scarf-style models that stretch out on the neck, some with openings for straws and even masks with the mouth region made of transparent material to help people with hearing impairments transmute aesthetics for a new function.
We still don't know when we will be using the masks full time. As much as it plays a key role in protecting against Covid-19, we cannot deny its aesthetic role and its influence on our clothing and we often find ourselves choosing masks for their pattern and color. The mask every day gains more fashion status and causes desire to many people, since it has become a necessity for everyone to return to life little by little normally.
